10 Hillsborough schools get a one-day FCAT reprieve

Most Florida schoolchildren will begin taking FCAT exams Tuesday. Not children at nine middle schools and one charter school in Hillsborough County. School district officials noticed "something wrong" with the test booklets for those campuses and is awaiting replacements in order to administer the test. So students at Bartels, Benito, Buchanan, Giunta, Ferrell, Greco, Rodgers, Shields and Williams middle schools, and Trinity charter school, will begin the FCAT on Wednesday instead. It's nothing new to see kids take the annual test on

different days. Students in the Plant City area also will start later because they'll be out for the Strawberry Festival. In the past, schools have postponed the FCAT to deal with local concerns including weather and student death. That's why they have a two-week testing window. Just be sure not to talk about the exam prompts with anyone you know who has already taken the FCAT. *
